Modern Science has estimated that there are around 8.7 million species of plants and animals in existence. Surprisingly, yogis of ancient India knew this fact thousands of years before. They declared that there are 8.4 million species in existence. According to classical yoga texts, the Yoga Poses are as many as the number of species in the world. They mentioned that there are 8.4 million or eighty-four lakh yoga postures as there are 8.4 million species in the world. Each yoga posture is identified with each of the species. For instance, Cobra Pose, Scorpion pose, and the like.

Out of these 84 lakh yoga postures, 84 postures are important. The ancient texts give a list of 84 poses and these postures are the classical yoga poses.
