Classic Yoga

Yoga Became a Business

Every part of the world knows about yoga. Though it is of Indian Origin, the whole world knows its importance and practices. Hundreds and hundreds of yoga institutes today are teaching yoga. Thousands and Thousands are practicing or aspiring to practice yoga today.

Yoga has become a business. Every yoga institute teaches yoga in a special way as if it has invented yoga. They keep the techniques as their private property.  They simply modify the techniques taught by traditional yoga scriptures or yogic Guru Parampara. Do they have private property rights over the techniques?

Change in Approach

Earlier, the approach of yoga was to have spiritual advancement. Now it the approach is to have better mental and physical health. Under the circumstances, the very concept of yoga has been forgotten. Nowadays, yoga used to mean only the postural aspect of yoga. Hence, a right understanding of yoga is required. For this, you need the study of classic yoga.

In India, until the influence of western culture, yoga was not a business. Earlier, no yoga guru was teaching yoga for making money. Of course, they accepted some money as Guru Dakshina. But, money was not their motive.

But a modern-day Guru makes huge money by institutionalizing yoga. He techniques yoga techniques taught which he has got from the ancient Yoga scriptures or Guru Parampara. He just modifies the technique and gives a new name.
